We are thrilled to announce the casting of the internationally famous soprano, Elizabeth Connell, who will be singing one of her signature roles, Leonore. Her recent engagements include Brunnhilde, the Kostelnicka, Ortrud and Ariadne in Australia; Lohengrin, Fidelio and Isolde in Berlin; Senta in Hamburg and Berlin and Elektra in Berlin, Madrid, Bordeaux and Montreal and the Färberin in a new production of Die Frau ohne Schatten in Frankfurt.
LLO is very happy to announce that  exciting young tenor Jeffrey Lloyd-Roberts will be singing the pivotal role of Florestan.
A 'tenor to be watched' .

"Throughout Jeffrey Lloyd-Roberts sings, acts, inhabits the title role as if his life depended on it...This could well be the defining role in Lloyd-Roberts entire career"
Martin Dreyer, Opera, Peter Grimes, March 2008

Critically acclaimed young British soprano, Rachel Nicholls will sing Marzelline. LLO is delighted to have engaged Miss Nicholls to complete our outstanding cast.

“...a wonderful, dreamy voice, whose haunting sound resonates in the memory.”
Echo: Ariadne auf Naxos / Royal Opera / Opernwelt

“The exciting new find on Bach Collegium Japan’s latest recording is the voice of second soprano Rachel Nicholls...”

British Bass, Richard Wiegold sings the role of the gaoler Rocco

‘It was a cast to kill for ……Richard Wiegold’s ho-hoing Green Knight was John Tomlinson meets Graham Chapman’
                                                                  The Independent

'And in a casting coup reminiscent of Russian dolls, bass Richard Wiegold's King Arkel is the most expansive overall, and yet his physical portrayal of dotage is shakily spot on'
National Post, Canada. Arkel – COC 2008

Baritone James Hancock who is singing the Dutchman for LLO at the Barbican will be singing Don Pizarro.

"Most striking of all was James Hancock as Boccanegra...... Hancock made Boccanegra a living, believable character, with pleasing voice and committed delivery."
www.classicalsource.com Nick Breckenfield

“James Hancock was the musical highlight of the evening …a distinguished performer” Denby Richards, Musical Opinion, Cycles, 2008
American Bass Paul Goodwin-Groen will be singing Don Fernando.

Rising young Tenor Andrew Staples will be singing Jaquino. Recent reviews from Opera Holland Park said,

“There was a radiant Tamino from Andrew Staples, who seems a transformed presence on stage. You could hear the “Callow effect” in the punchy way that he and others delivered dialogue”
The Times / Richard Morrison / 30 June 2008
