"...fine line and clear sound, lovely transparency of texture"
Review of Joy, Sorrow, Song 30 October 2007: Robert Hugill, Music and Vision
City of London vocal ensemble Londinium is equally at home singing Renaissance repertoire
as Romantic, modern or contemporary music. Since its debut in November 2005, this dynamic new
ensemble has been noted for its 'fine line and clear sound' and 'lovely transparency of texture'
in performances of mainly a-cappella and often lesser-known repertoire ranging from Palestrina
to James MacMillan and Robin Holloway.
With between 20 and 30 performers drawn from our pool of singers,
Londinium gives four or five concerts a year under our Musical Director
Madeleine Lovell. We usually rehearse and perform in London's
beautiful City churches,
and regularly undertake other engagements.
Forthcoming concerts include our
long-term cycle The Seven Deadly Sins which starts on 3 November 2009
with the tantalising theme of Lust.
On 19 December 2009 Londinium will continue its collaboration with
the fabulous St George's Chamber Orchestra including music
from Bach's Christmas Oratorio.
