Jeffrey Lloyd-Roberts 

Jeffrey Lloyd-Roberts was born in Wales and read music at Lancaster University before studying at the Royal Northern College of Music with Barbara Robotham., where he received awards from the Wolfson Foundation, the Countess of Munster Musical Trust and the Peter Moores Foundation. He was soon in demand on both the operatic stage and the concert platform.

Jeffrey Lloyd-Roberts’ concert repertoire covers most of the major oratorios, ranging from the Bach Passions through Mozart and Verdi’s Requiems to Mahler’s Eighth Symphony and Berlioz’ l’Enfance du Christ and Le Grande Messe des Morts. He has performed in Martinu’s Epic of Gilgamesh with the CBSO conducted by Sir Simon Rattle, Korngold’s Ring of Polycrates, sang a recital in Copenhagen and his BBC Proms debut in 1997 of Weill’s Seven Deadly Sins and the Mahagonny Songspiel.  He has sung Britten’s Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings in Denmark, a BBC recital, Poetry in Motion, with Iain Burnside, Molqui The Death of Klinghoffer with BBC Symphony Orchestra, Britten’s War Requiem in Belgrade with Stephen Barlow;  Psalmus Hungarias and  Berlioz’s Te Deum with The Huddersfield Choral Society, Bartok’s Cantata Profana with the BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by David Robertson at the Barbican, Beethoven Symphony No 9 at the Barbican, Elgar Dream of Gerontius with the BBC Philharmonic and Sinaisky at the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester;  Mahler Das Lied von der Erde for the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra in Kuala Lumpur; Berlioz Grande Messe de Morts at the Cheltenham Festival and the title role in a concert performance of Oedipus Rex at the 2007 Edinburgh International Festival.

Operatic performances have included Genoveva, Die Fledermaus, and Max Der Freischütz in Zwingenberg,  Florestan Fidelio, Don José Carmen and Macduff Macbeth with English Touring Opera; Le Comte de Nangis Le Roi Malgré Lui, Enrico Aroldo with Chelsea Opera Group; Lawyer Punch and Judy Music Theatre Wales and in Porto; Henri Smith in Bizet’s The Fair Maid of Perth for Buxton Festival; Janek The Makropulos Case for Welsh National Opera; Husband The Breasts of Tiresias, Peter Quint The Turn of the Screw, Lenski Eugene Onegin, Yuri The Enchantress (Tchaikovsky), Nicias Thaïs and Alexei in The Gambler, all at Grange Park Opera; the title role of Peter Grimes (which won the Royal Philharmonic Society Opera Award for 2006 and Best Opera at the 2007 South Bank Awards), Andres Wozzeck, Matteo Arabella, Laca Jenufa, Rodolfo La bohème, Paolo Francesca da Rimini, Jenik The Bartered Bride, Herod Salome (in concert), Kurt Weill’s Love Life and One Touch of Venus (also at the Ravenna Festival in Italy) for Opera North; Alwa Lulu for English National Opera, Gherardo in Gianni Schicchi at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden; Andres for Birmingham Opera Company; Judas The Last Supper with Glyndebourne Festival Opera at the Queen Elizabeth Hall; Hoffmann with Diva Opera throughout France; Peter Quint with Opera Omaha; and Lummer Intermezzo, Henry Morosus Die Schweigsame Frau, Matteo Arabella and the title role in Albert Herring for Garsington Opera, the latter conducted by Steuart Bedford.

Future engagements include The Prince Rusalka for Grange Park Opera, a concert performance of Mahagonny at the Edinburgh International Festival, a revival of Gianni Schicchi and The Gambler at Covent Garden, Birtwistle The Last Supper with the London Sinfonietta in Milan and Turin, Erik in The Flying Dutchman in concert for London Lyric Opera and Grange Park Opera, Tichon Katya Kabanova for Opera Holland Park, and The Adventures of Mr Broucek for Opera North and Scottish Opera.
